Marc Lescarbot

Marc Lescarbot was born in Prais, France in 1570. In 1606, he came to Port Royal until de Monts' fur trade licence was cancelled. When Lescarbot was about to go back to France, he published some books and some poetry about his experiences in Port Royal. Since he wrote about the year he spent at habitation in Port Royal, historians have proof about what Lescarbot did back when he was alive. He involved bimself in life in Acadia. Soon he was the colony's main provider for entertainment. He created stories, poems and plays to entertain men. He often visited the local Micmaq and related to their life style. When Poutrincourt (a lieutenant) came back from France to Port Royal, Lescarbot welcomed him with a big presentation. The presentation was a plpay called "The Theatre of Neptune" written and directed by Lescarbot himself. Micmaq and the french joined in for the performance. The mythical God Neptune (played by Lescarbot) appeared in a bark canoe to welcome Poutrincourt, and being praised by leaders of colonies from France and Micmaq. Cannons and trumpets finished the celebration.

Holling and his parents

Holling and His Parents
Hollings relationship with his parents is kind of difficult. When a child tells his or her parents something, I'd expect that the parents would believe him or her. Not Holling's. When he went to his mother because Ms.Baker hates his guts, she immediatly took Ms.Baker's side. I find it unfair because I think the only reason she did take her side is because she is an adult. She probably thinks that Ms.Baker is like a mother who can't pick her favourite child. Holling needed an ally in the war with Ms.Baker and his mother was no help so he went to his father. Big mistake. Holling went to his father and as soon as he spoke his father, he totally ignores him. The reason was he was watching Walter Cronkite and didn't want to miss anything. Really? He picked T.V over his own son! Finally when Holling's father paid enough attention to him so he could actually hear what he was saying, he told him to be nice and never complain. Why is that? His father was an architect and he had a shot of being the new architect for a sporting emporium. BAKER Sporting Emporium. If Holling was bad, his father would be broke and Holling, when he grows up, wouldn't become the boss of Hoodhood and Associates. I believe that if you care about your business more than your child..... you need some parenting books.

The Nest

Text to Text
I remember that I read a book that was nice and so was the "The Nest". My book was about a girl who had to disobey her father in order to keep a promise she made years ago. She left a note explaining what she was going to do and headed out. She finally succeeded in her mission and sautered down the street happily, even though it took a while to complete the mission. When she reached her house she saw her father crying with relief. He opened his arms and ran to her and she did the same. The father was not at all angry with her, but really happy she was home. I think that the two books were really simalar. Both main characters had to disobey their parents to make someone happy. They both had to grab onto freedom that was a little to far out of reach, but they tried harder and they were determind to grab onto it. In the end they managed to. I think that both books had a nice ending and is a wonderful moral.

Van Gogh

Van Gogh

Van Gogh was an unbelievable artist. His art was gorgeous and I don't know why no one liked his art. After he died, his art was one of the most expensive peices of artwork to buy. At least his loving brother Theo was at his side to help him through rough times. I still wonder why would he try to physicaly hurt one of his best friends because of a quarrel. Van Gogh actually chased his friend, Paul, with a razor. Van Gogh ,eventually, gave up the chase and, I can't beleive he did this, cut off the top part of his left ear. I beleive he was quite mad, and misunderstood. An interesting thing, that make me sad, was that he shot himself in the chest. He must have been very depressed and very misunderstood to have done that to himself. It was very sad because two days later, Van Gogh died. It wasn't that bad because Theo fell ill and died too. The people laid the brothers beside each other so they can rest in peace forever. I think that is sweet. My favourite painting by Van Gogh is "Starry Night". For me, looking at it is captivating and takes your breath away. I am very confused because no one in his time liked his art and now, people in this time are buying them for over 100 million dollars. The people in his time are crazy for not liking his artwork. In my opinion they (the people in Van Gogh's time) are the ones who are crazy because Van Gogh's artwork has been one of the wonderful things since Jesus. His art describes things in a way words can't. The meanings of his paintings are symbolic.
