Descriptive Writing Paragraph

During the March break my dad went to a beautiful country called Florida and came back with some fish to cook named hassa. He said he was making hassa curry a wonderful dish of food from Guyana where he was born. When I first saw the hassa, I noticed were enormous compared to the last time. I had them I had already tasted the amazing dish before but that was six or seven long years ago. Knowing that I would have this dish again I was as happy as a kid at a candy store. The next day after my dad had seasoned up the delicious fish he started cooking and the food immediately stated smelling good. The hassa smelled as good as a warm bright summer day, one of those days that you would go bike riding. It good even better a couple hours later when we were eating dinner. The food was rich, tasty, and mouth-watering and the fact that it was curried made it all better. The bones were fine and tiny so I was painfully poked on my tongue multiple times. My brother and I had a race to see who could remove the scales on their fish faster, the winner getting the other hassa. I moved vigorously and happily celebrated at my victory as I got his hassa. Although it was tedious and annoying to remove all of the bones the flavourful meat was worth it. My favourite part and arguably the second best part was when my dad said after dinner he was getting more of that delicious fish from a friend. Overall I think that being able to just see the magnificent fish brightened my mood. I really hope that fish runs over here as fast as it can because I am as hungry as a lion.

Career Fair

Career Fair Paragraph
On Thursday May 5th 2011 my classmates and I went to the career fair in the gym hosted by the grade eights. The career that I was looking at was an electrician and the grade eight at that stand was Dwayne. I think that I would be very good at that job because according to him you need to be good with numbers and be a precise measurer. Also my dad was showing me things about electrical work when we were putting in lights in our basement. When you are an electrician you could be working on something as small as a light fixture or something as big and complex as a heavy machine motor. Some advantages (pros) about being an electrician are that it is a well-paying job and it is a useful life skill (example: if you needed to fix a light inside your home). The average amount of money an electrician gets annually is eighty thousand dollars and although that is not that much to support a family it is still a pretty good amount. Some disadvantages (cons) about being an electrician are that you have to work all the time even if it is in bad weather such as heavy raining and if you do one thing wrong you can shock yourself then end up in a hospital or even die! To become an electrician it takes about 4 years after education (one year as an apprentice three years as a joneryman) to get to a masters rank. I conclude by saying that an electrician would be a good job for anyone who likes math and working with electricity.

Saint Andre

Saint Andre
Approximately seventy-three years ago on January sixth a man named Andre Bessette died. He was the first saint of the twenty-first century but he only became a saint after he died and until that we would have called him Blessed Andre. Saint Andre was born and was raised in Quebec and when he grew up, he made his own oratory. Andre was a poor man and unfortunately his parents died when he was at a young age so his uncle raised him. His uncle was very unkind to him because his uncle though he was lazy when he was actually weak and sickly. Also, because he was sickly he could not help around the farm and he was ill-educated. Even with all that against him still had a successful life "despite my limitations," he said, "There was no one who worked harder than me." At first he was rejected from the holy order because he was not smart enough so he became the doorman in Montreal. After that the miracles started to happen because he listened to people's problems and asked god to help them along with answering the door. He built his own church so that people could ask god themselves and millions of people go there every year with their prayers answered.

The Cross Country Race and Heather's Homecoming (The Wednesday Wars)

The Cross Country Race (The Wednesday Wars)
Holling's school had a running competition on a Saturday in April at Salisbury Park for the people that made teams so on Saturday Danny Hupfer and Holling went to races. One race was for the JV boys and one was for the varsity team. Danny was racing first and in the race he was doing very good until the fifth lap because the eighth graders behind him came and bruised his knees when he was in the woods. Since he had bloody knees he could barely walk so he almost finished last. This inspired Holling to get first in the varsity race especially when Danny told him "Beat the pied ninnies. " I can relate to this because I play a game online called Tetris and I am a naturally competitive person. When someone beats my score in Tetris it motivates me because I want to be the best I could possibly be. Not only does this make me better at playing the game but I also have a lot of fun.

Heather's Homecoming (The Wednesday Wars)
In the month of May Holling's sister (Heather) left to go to California to go find herself because her dad was not allowing her to go to Columbia University. One night his sister called at a time she knew that only Holling would be awake to answer. She told Holling that she only had four dollars and a train ticket to New York cost forty-four dollars and fifty-five cents. In order for Holling to get his sister back home he cashed in his Salisbury Park savings bond for fifty-two dollars and he sent the money to his sister. His father refused to take him to pick up his sister so Holling asked his mother for enough money for two train tickets and two big lunches. When he found his sister they had grilled cheese sandwiches, two cokes, and chocolate doughnuts. Holling felt very empty inside without his sister and realized for the first time he loved her. This was probably because he missed all of the good times with her and wanted to have more good times with her.
