Heather's Homecoming
In May, Holling's sister, Heather left with her friend Chit to go and find herself in California.  During Heather's absence, Holling realizes that it is quiet, and empty around the house.  Holling also realizes that he loves his sister and that he misses her.  One day, late at night Heather phones Holling to tell him that she is alone and has only $4.00.  The next day Holling sends Heather money so she can get to New York City by train.  When she is scheduled to arrive in the city both his parents refused to go and pick her up from the station.  The only way that Holling can get her home is if Meryl Lee's father drops him off at the train station on his way to the Yankee Stadium.  Before Holling leaves, he tells his mom he needs money for two train tickets and two big lunches.  When Heather stepped off the train she ran to Holling and hugged him telling him how scared she was.  They spent the rest of the day telling each other of their past experiences.  They had a big lunch and walked through New York City.  They took a train out of the city and walked home from the station.  At dinner, when their father asked if Heather found herself, Holling said that she found him.

  1. I remember when that happened. It was so sad, even though Holling detested his sister he still missed her. I did not like my brother until I realized what would happen if he ran away. I would probably miss him a little. If Heather was my parents daughter they would go get her as soon as they heard she was coming home, unlike Holling parents. Anyway great blog.

  2. Great blog. I cannot believe that a parent like Heather’s, refused to pick her up from an unfamiliar place filled with strangers!!! What type of parents wouldn’t go and pick up their daughter? It is unfathomable that this happened; I was shocked when I read this in the book. Parents are supposed to take care of their children regardless of the foolish thing they have done. I agree with Christina P, I think I would miss my brother too if he ran away, but I think differently of my sister. :)
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. I loved your blog Ashley, it's hard to imagine a parent that is that lousy. I know if I were lost in an unknown and my parents wouldn't pick me up my sister would never help me. Heather was really lucky to have a brother like Holling. Great job Ashley!!!
