The Cross Country Race
Cross-country is supposed to be an exhilarating and challenging sport, not a blood sport.  Danny Hupfer made the Junior Varsity cross-country team for Camillo Junior High.  On the first race Danny had a discouraging experience.  He had been at the front of the race with a bunch of eighth graders behind him.  On the last lap Danny fell way behind and when he came around the bend everyone saw that he had bloody knees.  I think that this helped Holling win his race because he wanted to prove that the eighth graders should not be sore losers because a younger student is winning.  Holling wanted to show the eighth graders that seventh graders can be better and he did just that when he won his race.  When I play on a sport team, I do get intimidated by older players.  Although when my family and friends are there to cheer me on I want to do better, they give me motivation.

  1. I totally agree, younger players should not be discouraged when playing with older players. But hopefully the older players guide the younger players and not intentionally intimidate them like the eighth graders did to Holling and Danny. Sometimes it is good to play with others older than you and with more experience because the inexperienced players can learn from older, knowledgeable players.

  2. Ashley, that was an amazing blog, i really liked how you didn't just state how Holling won the race, but how you stated why and how he won the race. I agree when your around people you know you should impress you tend to do better! Amazing job!!!
