The Me to We Story
On September 30, 2010 the grade 7 students and two grade 7 teachers went on an excursion to the Air Canada Center for a ‘Me to We concert. ‘Me to We’ is a program that informs and encourages the youth to raise awareness about world issues both environmental and economical. We arrived at the ACC and I was amazed by how many leaders of our generation were there. The stadium was humungous! There were 20,000 people hustling and bustling to get into their seats and when the stadium was filled, the presentation began.
The most memorable part for me was when the host asked everyone to take out their camera and take a photo on his count of three. The lights were dimmed, 1-2-3 and the stadium lit up like a giant Christmas tree with the flashes of thousands of cameras. What an unforgettable moment. The host then introduced the band ‘Down with Webster’!! Their first song was ‘Your Man’ followed by ‘Woah is Me’. Their performance was awesome. They sang so great everyone was dancing in the stands and doing ‘the wave’. I was very impressed with everyone’s enthusiasm.
Next the host introduced the founders of ‘Me to We’ Craig and Mark Kielburger. They explained their missions overseas and all the positive things they have been doing across the world. Very inspirational! There were other speakers that also were very informative, they are holding a ‘Halloween can drive’ to donate canned foods and are hoping to exceed last years donations of over 250,000 pounds. This day was ended with an unbelievable performance by K’naan, he sang ‘Take a Minute’ and ‘Waving Flay.’ Everyone was bursting with generosity which made this meeting very outstanding and motivating us all to be a generation of change makers.

I Remember when everone took a picture that was my favourite part there where flashes everywhere, but when I took a picture nothing showed up. Another thing i liked was that the bands they asked to perform actually sounded the same as when their songs play on the radio. The part that really got to me was when Craig Kielburger explained why he started the Free the Children Foundation. He said he started it because a child was stolen from his familly into slavery when he was four. When he was ten he escaped and went in front of an audience held a tool in one hand and a pencil in the other, he said no child should have to hold a tool, but every child should have the oppertunity to hold a pencil. When that boy was playing by his house he was shot at the age of 12.
ReplyDeleteWhen Craig heard about this he disided to stand up, when he asked who will stand with him and 11 children in his class raised their hands. that is why I loved Me to We.
Christina, you always go above and beyond when it comes to working at all. I love how your sentences flow and your descrpitive words. I like the part when you talked about how they dimmed the lights then 1-2-3 and all the stadium lit up with all the flashes of the cameras. Your work is always splendid to read and is a wonderful story. It is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteWow, Christina, this is an amazing story/summary of the day! Going to "Me to We" was so fun and you really show that in your writing! Aside from the fun, the motivational speakers were very...motivationing. Their speeches made you feel grateful for EVERY last thing you had!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I complain about something, my mom always says that she is sure the children half way around the world are saying the same thing. Of course she is being sarcastic, I usually ignore that comment but now I realize it is not something that should be ignored.
Once again, amazing work!
WOW,Christina the was amazing, especially, since I forgot most of it, it was a great summary. I also agree with you, I loved the part when the stadium lit up. It was an awesome experience. I also liked when they talked about me to we and the amazing performances. great job!!!!

That was a good blog to read especially since I am really interested in We Day. I wish that I could have been there but I did not e-mail the Van Gogh blog in fast enough.i would have tried to get autographs from all of the celebrities there. Also, I saw you guys on TV!
ReplyDeleteThis was a really entertaining blog to read! Those three songs, Whoa is Me, Take a Minute and Wavin' Flag are some of my favourite songs. It must have been really cool to hear the bands/artists perform live on stage. I agree with Sean, if I was there at the "Me to We" concert, I would try to get the celebrities autographs.
