The Nest
In the story, 'The Nest', I can relate to the character, Jimmy. My parents are very, very protective. They watch over everything, but I guess that's their job. Of course my siblings and I are fighting for freedom, but so far we are being defeated. If we ever bring stuff up, they will typically say NO! "We are doing what is best for you!" are common words of Jimmy's parents, and common words of my parents. They say that when I grow up I will be grateful for what they do for me now. That is probably true, but with a little more freedom I'll be extra grateful. Now I know this is making me sound like a big complaining baby, but that is not the case. I just know that it can be a little crushing to have protective parents.
How Jimmy stands up for Paul in this story is amazing. It reminds me of when we learned about van Gogh. Jimmy stands up for Paul because he feels that no one understands him. He thinks that everyone is looking at his past and his family instead of looking at his present. Van Gogh, in my opinion, was misunderstood. Instead of looking at the great art pieces he did, people looked at his craziness, which I think was awfully unfair. Although people misunderstood van Gogh, his brother, Theo, seemed to greatly understand him. Theo looked past van Gogh's 'craziness' and realized what he loved to do and what he could do.

I love how you related the story The Nest to Van Gogh who we learned about recently. Usually what I would do when parents say no is tell them like I will do the dishes for three months and do laundry for two months. It works sometimes but not always (I hope my parents don't read this). Great blog Ashley!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Ashley! I agree that all parents are protective, including me own. But as we grow older, we will get more freedom. Again, great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Ashley! Those are also common words of my parents. Sometimes parents can be over protective, but I guess that is their job. My parents have said'no' to a lot of things I've asked them in the past. Buy my parents always do what's best for me, well at least that's what they say. Anyways, this was a great blog!

I like how you related the story The Nest to Van Gogh who we recently learned about in class. I think parents have a really good reason for not letting us go places but do not usually say it. Great blog Ashley!
ReplyDeleteThat was an awesome blog Ashley! I love how you added some serious, funny, regular, and many other emotions. I can relate a lot to your story too, my parents are very protective too. I also loved how you related your story with Van Gogh. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteFabulous Blog!! I really liked the way you emphasized some words in your blog to add more feeling! I also liked the way you related this story to Van Gogh. Parents can be a pain at times, but hey. What would we be without them?

Great blog! I really liked how you made the connection from The Nest to Van Gogh! You used great words and I could hear your voice in the story. The way you emphasized words made it feel like you were telling the story to me. Parents can be over protective most of the time, hang in there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing

I love your blog! It was great how you related to Van Gogh because, as you said, he was misunderstood. I also know what it's like to have over protective parents. They STILL won't let me go out with my friends for trick-or
ReplyDelete-treating. I'm still trying to change their minds, but anyway great blog!
