Descriptive Writing
Look at the seven pictures on the class wiki http://engineroom.wikispaces.com/Descriptive+Writing
.Write a description that creates a picture in the reader's mind. Remember to use figurative language, interesting adjectives, adverbs and verbs. Post in the comments below. You may want to save your descriptions in word.

Example 1
ReplyDeleteThe fiery burning ruins of the building seemed to be crying out for help while being engulfed by the flames. The fires on the building looked like the end result of a fierce explosion.
Example 2
ReplyDeleteThe raging muddy water from the seaside resort effortlessly washed over the shore along with a forceful wind that was easily blowing the palm trees to the right. The wind even seemed to be pushing over the house along with the palm trees.
Image 1) In the dead of night the skeleton of a building is barely standing. Fierce flames of frightening fire engross the building within. The flaming dust and debris lays about. The fire bolts throughout each building and leaves an unpleasant sight behind. The flames are an ostentatious orange-red.

Picture 2: A tsunami is hitting a tropical island and destroying everything in sight. The palm trees are being blown away and swaying back and forth. There is a shack floating in the water and a deck is being torn apart. The wind is very severe and the water is treacherous.

Image 2) In the cloudy and crisp afternoon, the wild wind is swaying the tall palm trees back and forth. The water that hurls itself on to the beach of Cuba is a disgusting mucky, misty white. The houses are collapsing left, right and center. A house in the background is being consumed by the forceful and powerful water.

a blazing fire is destroying all it's surroundings, leaving nothing behind. Its firey flames burn trees, grass, and nature's lving things. It swallows this forest whole and spits ash back. Meanwhile a couple of deer stay calm in a serene lake, not noticing the growing vicious fire behind them. But they do notice the other many gifts around them.

ReplyDeleteA strong, stunning, tsunami is wiping an entire city out with its white, opaque, bubbly water. It carries not only the city but all those living in it. Especially one particular boy who is struggling for survival in this tsunami in the middle of this solid storm.

3. The colossal wave over looked the buildings as it was about to strike upon it. The monsterous sapphire coloured tsunami almost ate up all that stood before it.

ReplyDeleteThe trees are burning while a few animals run for safety along the river. The forest fire flames look like the rays from the sunset.
Example 1: The overwhelming, excruciatingly hot fire burns the once flawlessly constructed building. The only remnants left are the bones of the building that are engulfed in fiery flames, waiting to be incinerated to ashes. The crisp crackling of the debris releases a thick, black smoke soon to become chalky soot. The blaze smolders the structure like a furnace consuming kindling. Scarlet and candy apple red, amber and coral orange and shades of sunglow and gold yellow devour the structure. The building burns as little tongues of fire lick the air; glowing embers lash out. The damage is too severe for anything to be rescued; all there is remaining to do is witness the devastating and overpowering flickering flames swallow the home completely.
ReplyDeleteExample 2: The powerful waves crash viciously against the shore. The angry and enraged sea is soon to flood the peaceful land. The sky is a pale blue, calm and clear, but the sea is a complete contradiction. The massive waves are on the verge of collapsing and about to release a tremendous amount of ocean water into the city to destroy everything in it’s path, devastation is inevitable. The trees attempt to stand their ground as the forceful winds blow them over; bowing unnaturally. The pounding slate coloured water is about to crash, crush and collapse the little wooden shack that has no chance of survival.

The serene, royal-cobalt sea is on the precipice of causing chaos in the helpless city. Water overflows the cement wall, the fear resembling the release of a monster. The massive wave stretches for the sky. The colossal wave curls menacingly: the disaster ahead will be a treacherous battle.

The plummeting mass of cement resembles dominoes, the city powerless to seizing the buildings motion. The buildings stand tall over everything and are about to crush and crumble the civilization beneath them. People carry on with their day; shock and distress wait unexpectedly around the corner.
ReplyDeleteExample 5: The erupting fiery volcano overflows scalding crimson lava. As it slowly trickles down the mound of dirt and clay, the lava illuminates the entire valley and forest. The near by forest animals are alerted by this bright sight. Deer freeze in their places as the lava beings engulfing the foliage in its path. The pond at the base of the dangerous prehistoric mountain reflects the red-orange flames and lemon and mustard yellow lava on the tranquil, serenely sinister water.
ReplyDeleteExample 6: A nightmare has emerged. After the harsh and solid waves of a tsunami tossing and turning him, a mere survivor has emerged out of the submerged land. The land has become one with the salty, ocean water. The crashing waves have flooded every crevice and corner. Facial expressions show this man to be overwhelmed, and overcome with fear. His thoughts may range from his stranded and struggling family or friends out at a sea that stretches for miles. Trepidation and alarm have struck this young man, and this is one of the many people at sea. Many people are overcome and submerged with these vicious waters. Many bodies are being tossed at see, some lifeless and lost.

ReplyDeleteThe man was floating by the tree trying his best to survive the treacherous waves that are surrounding him. The waves are white and blue making it look like it is mixed with snow at first glance.
Image 3) It is midday in a busy city. To the right is a colossal wave that looks like a mountain waiting to crash on to the highway beneath. This terrible wave is a beautiful aqua blue and looks very rough. The cars on the street are scurrying away from the wild wave. The city to the right of the highway has many towering buildings. To the back are peaceful mountains unaware of what is about to happen to them.

There are three apartment buildings, the one in the center is about to come crashing down on the one to the right. The debris of the already fallen buildings lays around. There are five cars in front just sitting there, not moving. The sky is a grim grey from all the dust.

Image 5) In a thinning forest about to be eaten by flaming fire the weak trees are falling fast. Two little animals on the road in the middle of all this chaos are trying to scurry to safety. In the front there are green trees but that won’t last long, the fire is moving fast. The flames are a bright orange, almost painful to look at.

As the boy swims for survival from the current, it is like a a prey being bitten by a poisonous snake. They try to run, but they know they won't make it in time.
