Novel Study Assignment
-------------------------------------
Part 3 Setting

Setting is where and when the novel stakes place. This novel is set in the anti-Vietnam War protests of  1960s in the United States.

Part A) Change the setting of the story. It can be in a different country, state or time period. Describe this new setting. Explain as clearly as you can how this change would affect the events/ ending of the story.

Part B) Make a full scale map, in colour, to show the most important places from your version of the novel. Be sure to label your map clearly.

Part 4 Getting Really Original

Pick any two following to complete your assignment

-Create a news article about the novel. Ensure that your have a great headline that will capture your readers’ attention.

-Find an article from a newspaper or magazine (online or print) about a problem that is similar to one found in the novel. Include it in your book report and remember to present it in an interesting way. Detail the reason why you chose to include the article and explain how it relates to the novel.

-Use a melody or rap you already know. Rewrite the lyrics so that they are about the novel. No profanity or inappropriate lyrics will be allowed.

Be ready to perform your song.

- Design a book jacket of the novel. Go to your library and look at other book jackets if you need ideas for this activity. Although a book jacket is designed to protect the cover of a book, it also gives the publisher an opportunity to bring a book to the purchase or reader’s attention.

Design a book jacket using the following plan.

Inside Flap: List of other books by the Author

Back Cover: Information about the novel. (This should pique the

reader’s interest, but not give anything away)

Spine: Title and Author

Front Cover: Coloured Illustration , Title and Author

Inside Flap About The Author
------------------------------------

Please remember that you have to decide how to present your work. It should be neat, free of errors, creative, well spaced  and well presented. You may choose not to type it up, but I recommend that you do.  Remember to be creative. You've been given more than an hour of classtime a day to work this past week. You should be working on this at home.
